The Practice of Posture

This course is guided by the philosophy of reconnecting with and befriending the body and the pillar of contemplative and embodied approach from Rev. Angel Kyodo Williams, Lama Rod Owens and Jasmine Syedullah, PhD Radical Dharma Practice. It's not uncommon for people to be disconnected from themselves for a multitude of reasons, but this conditioning benefits the structures of domination within this society. Listening to the body, sensing the body, and meeting the body 'where it's at' is a skill that requires continued practice, yielding in the body mind again and again. The ability to return to ourselves and to our practice  sheds light on our patterns of habituation. Our bodies are incredibly suited to teach us about ourselves in relationship to our environments, with each other and most importantly to ourselves. Being able to recognize the existence of these patterns marks the beginning of our liberation.

The way out, is the way in.

Your embodiment guide

Jamila Kekulah Kinney (they/she) is a Somatic Movement Practitioner and certified mindfulness instructor (MNDFL). They first experienced meditation in a yoga class decades ago- it was frustrating and uncomfortable. Many years later during a particularly challenging time they experienced an existential crisis. Eventually that led her to become a student of somatic meditation and her journey of integration continues.

Jamila is the creator of The Moving Soul, a holistic somatic movement practice that bridges the gap between soma, psyche and soul. It is their mission to guide folks into relationship with themselves and to be at home in their body.  She envisions a world where folks live, love, and relate with each other from an embodied and mindful place.
